Alice Real is an organist, music director, and educator in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Through her multifaceted experiences performing and working in church, community, and educational settings, Alice believes in the power of music to build relationships, create meaning, and change lives.

Alice has served at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, Virginia since 2013, where she is currently employed full time as Organist, Director of Handbells and Youth Choirs, and Director of Youth and Family Ministries. Alice also accompanies the Northern Virginia Chorale and has many years experience as a collaborative keyboardist with choirs, vocalists, and instrumentalists. In addition, as an accomplished handbell musician, Alice has performed many seasons with Virginia Bronze Community Handbell Ensemble, at venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Music Center at Strathmore, and the National Cathedral.

A graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts in music and history with a certificate in museum studies, while studying piano and harpsichord. Alice additionally holds a Master of Arts in elementary education from W&M and spent 13 years as an elementary general music specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools.

Alice began studying organ with David Lang in 2021 as a scholarship recipient through Washington DC’s Potomac Organ Institute and is a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists. She completed a graduate certificate in church music in 2024 from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA. Alice is currently a Masters candidate in Organ Performance at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in the studio of Daniel Aune.
